Elliott Sadler’s Week 32 Advice - “I think you have to look at recent history”
Posted By: Elliot Sadler
Hello people and welcome to my home state of Virginia!!! I like coming to Martinsville and Richmond because after the race, it is just a hop and a jump back to my home town. The first thing people usually ask me when they meet me is "Hey Elliott, where is that accent of yours from?" Well here is the way I explain it. Now to my knowledge, some of the first settlers in what is now the United States landed in Jamestown, Virginia. That is about an hour and a half from my home town Emporia. So if the first settlers were basically my neighbors, I believe it is the rest of you who have the accent!!! Just a little Virginia humor to get us started. Now on to the race.
In the first group this week, I think you have to look at recent history and that will lead you to the Hendrick, Gibbs, and the Childress teams. Now what you have left regarding starts for your drivers is going to determine who you place here. I still have a start for the 48, the 11, 18, 07, and the 29. So my first group this week will come out of those five cars. It is all about strategy and a little luck on who you pick from here on out and where you choose to race them. You would probably get at least a top five out of the 48 here, but would you trade that for a top 10 out of the 07 here this weekend and save your 48 start for a later date. These are the tough questions you will be asking yourselves over the next five weeks. I myself, will probably have the 11 and one of the Childress cars here. But its close.
In the second group, I am looking at the 6, the 42, and possibly the 43. I have a couple starts left for some of the other drivers, but I am holding those back for a couple races down the road. The pickings are getting tight in every group, but this group is especially tough. For a dark horse here, look at Tony Raines. He had a pair of top 20's here last year.
In the third group, I am really impressed with how the 01 has run on the short tracks this year. After opening at Bristol with a 26th place finish, he has had back to back 14th place finishes at Martinsville and the second stop in Bristol. He also finished a respectable 21st and 23rd in his two stops at Richmond. So I would say this is a driver to keep an eye on this weekend. I am leaning towards going with Chevrolets in this group here this weekend. So the 66, 15, and possibly Almirola will be my second choice. For a couple of Toyotas, I like the 44, and keep an eye on Schrader. He could surprise.
Have a good weekend everybody and I'll see you at the track.
