DEFENSE
That Viking defense is pretty good, especially with four TDS in two games, but I've got to show some love to the Green Bay Packers. They've started 2-0 for the first time in a long time, plus they're doing a good job stopping the run with great speed at the linebacker position. LT is finding out what it's like to be the MVP of the league. With a target on his back, he's off to the worst start of his career as he faces the Pack this week at Lambeau.
QUARTERBACK
Derek who? The Cleveland kid sure put up some great numbers last week. And while Brady is on a roll, and you could probably start Kitna every week with that Martz offense, my pick for Week 3 is Carson Palmer. He's hotter than a six-shooter after throwing for six TD's against Cleveland and I expect him and his stellar receiving corp. to get two or three more against the Seattle defense. That Bengal's offense is smoking but their defense is another story.
RUNNING BACKS
It was nice to see Jamal Lewis back in the fantasy headlines after rushing for 216 yards against Cincinnati but he will likely have a tougher time when the Browns travel to Oakland and face Rob Ryan's defense. LaMont Jordan had a breakout game last week against the Broncos defense and will face-off against a tough Jacksonville D this week. Frank Gore is showing every week that he's a really good back. He's playing really well and with a lot of pride after his mother passed away last week. My pick for Week 3 is Deuce McAllister. The Saints are mad and flat out embarrassed at their performance thus far. It's a long season and I've got to show them some love, especially this week when they will play on primetime Monday night at home.
WIDE RECEIVERS
I love what Randy Moss is doing in New England. Does he have a chip on his shoulder or what? And Chad Johnson? He's a great pick every week, heck, any of those Cincy receivers are a safe play. But for Week 3, I really like the crafty veteran Joey Galloway. At 35, he and Jeff Garcia are really starting to create some chemistry down in Tampa Bay.
TIGHT END
The Cowboys and Tony Romo are off to a strong start this season and a beneficiary of that offense is their big tight end Jason Witten. When the Cowboys face Chicago next week look for Romo to try and get rid of the ball a little earlier. That'll translate into less time for the receivers to get open down field, but more looks for Witten. He's also especially good against zone defenses and heavy blitzing.
KICKERS
Kickers are tough to pick, so you look for offenses that might not put up a lot of points. The nine-year veteran Akers was four for four in field goals last week against Washington and will have a chance to rack up some nice kicks again this week against the visiting Detroit Lions.
Good luck this week,
TB
