A huge factor in any fantasy player's approach to setting their lineup for that week is playing the match-ups. This is even more important on PayTheFan.com because you are not restricted to picking your starters from a pre-selected roster.
So how do you narrow the field? By picking players who face defenses that give up a lot of points.
Defenses that have given up a lot of points early in the season will continue to do so. A defensive unit doesn't start out poorly and then all of the sudden bust out the way an individual player can so spotting a trend/bad defense is easier to do.
Take for example the defenses of the AFC West and NFC West. Three of the AFC West teams rank in the bottom five of overall defense with San Diego at 28th, Kansas City at 29th and Denver at 30th. Three of the seven worst defenses in the NFL reside in the NFC West; St. Louis (31st), Seattle (27th) and San Francisco (26th). In all six of the seven worst defenses in the entire NFL are from one of these two divisions.
On average the defenses in the AFC West give up over 25.52 points per game. The only division giving up more? The NFC West which gives up an average of 28.45 points per game with both Seattle and St. Louis giving up over 30+ per game.
Knowing that, you can see why some players are content to start Brad Johnson this week.
